What is Hide It™?

Hide It is a soft, light weight permanent topping that is available in fourteen colors. When you use Hide It with your embroidery, your stitches actually form on the Hide It rather than the garment. Because Hide It is permanent, it will not wash away. Hide It can turn ordinary embroidery into beautiful embroidery. It also will allow you to embroider on items that you might not be able to otherwise.

When to use Hide It™

Hide It has several great uses, including the following:

...to keep a garment color from showing through the embroidery. An example would be eliminating the possibility of a red garment showing through a white embroidered snowman

...to keep a design in the fabric such as a stripe from showing through the embroidery

...to give the embroidery more density

...to compensate for an unusual texture or weave that keeps the needles from making a normal stitch

...to keep terrycloth or other high napped fabric from ever showing through the stitches

...to allow you to reduce the stitch density of a design so that it may be sewn on a light weight
fabric without the design being too heavy for the fabric

...to compensate for a mistake in the digitization of a design

Hide It comes in an assortment of colors. For best results, you will want to match (as closely as you can) the color of the Hide It to the color of the embroidery thread of a particular area.

How to Use Hide It™

1. Prepare the item to be embroidered as you normally would, that is, use a stabilizer backing and either hoop or stick down the item to be embroidered, whichever is appropriate.

2. Attach the hoop to the machine.

3. As a last step before starting to embroider, lay a piece of Hide It slightly larger than the area to be embroidered on top of that area.

4. Once the area where that particular color is completed, gently remove the untrapped Hide It. The needle penetration on the outside edges of the Hide It will make it easy to remove.

5. Continue to embroider. For those areas (colors) that need Hide It, repeat the above process. Continue until the design is completed.

Helpful Hints:

• You will more than likely not be using this topping behind every color in you embroidery.

• Do not use Hide It in areas where untrapped areas can not be removed easily.

• Hide It may be used as a permanent topping on items such as towels when you are concerned that repeated washing could allow a temporary topping to dissolve behind the embroidery and thus allow the nap to come through the embroidery. However, you must make sure that you are using an open style lettering or design that does not leave the possibility of tiny openings that make removal of Hide It virtually impossible. Examples would be the letters “e” and “a” in small fonts.
